The Art of Moldovan Clay: 6 Studio Steps

Authentic photo documentation of our hand-throwing, sculpting, drying, and kiln firing routines at the Bălți atelier.

Raw clay wedging and kneading by potter hands STEP 01

Clay Sourcing & Hand-Wedging

Locally dug terracotta and chamotte clay are blended with mineral grog and spirally kneaded to remove all internal air pockets.

Northern Moldovan Deep Clay
Centering and wheel throwing on potter's wheel STEP 02

Centering & Wheel Throwing

The damp clay mound is centered on the wheel head. Master hands pull up cylinder walls and shape organic swelling contours.

Manual & Electric Wheels
Leather hard trimming and carving with loop tools STEP 03

Leather-Hard Trimming & Carving

Once the clay firms up, wire loops and wooden ribs carve geometric fluting, trim footrings, and hand-sculpt looped handles.

Loop Tools & Pencil Etching

Slow Air-Drying & Greenware

Unfired greenware rests on slatted wooden drying racks for 10-14 days. Moisture evaporates uniformly to avoid hairline fissures.

10-14 Days Natural Air Curing

Mineral & Wood-Ash Glazing

Bisqued pottery is dipped or brush-coated with custom suspensions of crushed quartz, iron oxides, and local beechwood ash.

Natural Mineral Pigments
High temperature kiln loading and vitrification STEP 06

1,200°C Kiln Vitrification

An 18-hour continuous firing vitrifies clay particles into non-porous stoneware, locking in tactile earthen glaze depth.

MOLDOVA BĂLȚI STUDIO
Our Heritage

Rooted in Bălți, Moldova.
Shaped for Modern Living.

Established as Societatea cu Răspundere Limitată CREATIV CERAMICA in the historic city of Bălți, our studio bridges Eastern European ceramic heritage with contemporary, understated interior aesthetics.

In an era of mass-produced plastic and synthetic trinkets, we choose the honesty of deep clay, mud, water, minerals, and fire. Every ceramic ornament preserves tiny tool marks and glaze flickers—authentic signatures of human hands at work.

"Clay has a quiet memory. When you hold one of our vessels, you touch the rhythm of the potter's fingers and the fertile soil of Moldova."
